The weekend was about road trips! Three days of relaxation, fun and cultural activities. I love me some.
Let’s go to the beach
On Friday we went to Kokrobite Beach again, but this time we also spent the night there. Which was very nice, apart from the apartment and room we slept in… If you’re following me on Snapchat (celmatique), you saw Charles lifting up the toilet seat with his foot, inspecting the bathroom for cockroaches. Hahaha. We didn’t have bed sheets, towels and the room smelled like there haven’t been people living in the house for at least six months. BUT, it didn’t matter: we had a lovely Reggae Night and we were together. Charles and I both love to dance, so we enjoyed our selves a lot that night.
The next day we drove to Cape Coast, where we stayed at the Coconut Grove Beach Hotel together with Gerrit, Jaouhara, Charles’s sister Monaa and her boyfriend Elias. It was so nice to just walk along the beautiful beach and relax for a bit.
Reminder of slavery
We also visited Elmina Castle. The fort was first established as a trade settlement, but the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. I felt chills down my spine walking through that place… It made me feel guilty, even though that doesn’t make sense at all. It was also very uncomfortable, but yet very impressive.
Last but not least, we went back on monday and the day after (the 21st of July) I turned 23! Charles gave me the most wonderful birthday present ever: a trip together to the island São Tomé en Principe! He is such a sweetheart. On the day of my birthday we went to the Mövenpick Hotel to just chill along the poolside, swim a little, eat a lot. Haha! Yeah, it was a great (long) weekend!
